The Shelter of Gaston County

The Shelter of Gaston County, under the direction of The Gaston County Department of Social Services, is organized and operating for the purpose of decreasing the incidence of domestic violence in our community by offering temporary shelter and resource services to the women and children of Gaston County who are victims of domestic violence.  Of particular interest to The Shelter is the safety, both physical and psychological, of our residents and the continued education of our community toward domestic violence.

The Shelter offers a residential facility for 20 to 25 women and children. Various brochures and other information are available to spread awareness of domestic violence throughout the community. A link to the Students Against Dating Violence web site is included at the Shelter’s web site.

The Shelter is supported by the Community Foundation of Gaston County’s Run for the Money. This run or walk event normally occurs the first weekend in April. At other times, the Shelter accepts monetary and in-kind donations. All in-kind donations can be delivered to the Shelter during normal business hours. A wish list of needed items is available at the web site.

The Shelter provides a 24-Hour Crisis Line. Reach them at 704-852-6000.

You can reach the Shelter Director at 704-810-6492.
